Soumya Sarkar is currently an Assistant Professor of Marketing in IIM Ranchi where he teaches Marketing Management, B2B Marketing and Sports & Entertainment Marketing. He has also taught in IIM Udaipur and Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar. He has published papers in international peer-reviewed journals in branding and popular culture.

Prior to this, his career of 14 years was spent in industrial marketing covering marketing, sales, research & development, and manufacturing in a global leader of welding products. He has managed the product management function of two different product lines, interfaced with field sales team for marketing inputs, interfaced with R&D for product development exercises, and had handled end-to- end brownfield expansion and operations of an independent manufacturing line.
